Our Suggestions to Getting Started in the Prism Movement Virtual Studio

Classes & Videos are intended to be a movement experience coupled with body mapping – both of which will increase the amount of sensory input to your brain and allow nervous system adaptability.

There are many factors to consider when navigating how to utilize the content in the Virtual Studio:

  • current activity level

  • nervous system dominance & awareness

  • pain or discomfort

  • sense of curiosity

  • willingness to be uncomfortable and not have all the answers

  • putting aside what you think you know

  • Mat Class is the easiest from a movement perspective, and best for beginner body mappers. But if being on the floor is not an option for you, try Arch Curl.

  • Arch Curl is also a good choice for beginning mappers & movers. The arm movement can be fatiguing at first. If this is true for you, consider just doing the centerline part of the movement and eliminate the arms. Add your arms back as you feel comfortable.

  • Equipment Mat Class – this is the most advanced of our offerings and makes assumptions about your movement skill and mapping experience. This is a bit on the fitness side with the addition of props & dumbbells.

  • Motionsculpt is great for those that tend to overthink and need all the answers. This class is standing and for some a bit on the cardio side. The intention is to not give you enough time to figure it out. To get started, do just your feet or just your arms. Then try to put them together.

  • In general, good topics to pick are

    • Things on the sides of the body: ASIS, Tip of Scapula, 10th Ribs

    • Centerline: Breastbone, tailbone/anus, pubic symphysis, belly button, etc.

  • What sparks your curiosity these days? Every topic we explore is designed to enrich the brain’s sensory input, supporting greater adaptability and resilience in the nervous system.

  • If there is an area where you experience pain or discomfort, pick a topic in a different area.

  • Valve System & Fascial Bands: head to the Audio Visualizations

  • The Absolute Beginners Series dives into essential concepts that frequently surface across a wide range of classes, no matter the specific focus. A perfect starting place for newcomers.

  • If you take 1:1 sessions, pick a topic that compliments your topic from your most recent session.

Many of the pages have filters to help you narrow down class options.

Filters include body segment (head, shoulder girdle, ribcage, pelvis, arms, legs) and class type (Motionsculpt, Mat, Arch Curl, Equipment Mat), class duration, and classes that can be done at a desk or at work.

A great option if you have movement discomfort, pain, fatigue, hypersympathetic nervous system activation, or perhaps just a little hesitant about getting started. This allows adaptation to be spread out over time and helps limit any unwanted feedback caused by parasympathetic changes (sometimes change just stinks).

  • Week 1:

    • Pick one topic and do just the first 10-minutes of the class

    • Repeat the exact same 10-minutes for 5-days in a row.

    • Take 2-days “off”

  • Week 2:

    • Pick a different topic and do just the first 12-minutes

    • Repeat the exact same 12-minutes for 5-days in a row.

    • Take 2-days “off”

  • Week 3:

    • Pick yet a different topic and do just the first 14-minutes

    • Etcetera….
